King Prawn and Seafood, Indian Style

Seafood is the part of the Indian menu people too often skip, and they are missing out. Prawn and fish take to Indian spicing beautifully, the chilli, garlic and coconut lifting them rather than masking them. At Saffron Soho our seafood runs from sizzling garlic prawns to fragrant coastal fish curries, and it deserves a place on your table.
The King Prawn Dishes
King prawn is the headline. Garlic King Prawn is pan-fried with fresh garlic and onions and served on a sizzler, simple and full of flavour. King Prawn Puree makes a fine starter, the prawn in a medium-spiced sauce on thin fried bread.
For the full experience, Sizzling King Prawn brings fresh chillies, red and green peppers and fried garlic in a medium sauce, served still hissing. King Prawn Shaslik skewers the prawn with capsicum, onion and tomato and chargrills it in the tandoor. These are dishes with real presence.
The Fish Curries
Fish takes spice gracefully. Fish Goa is medium-spiced with mustard seed, coconut and lime juice, bright and coastal, the taste of India's western shore. Fish Curry is a classic Bangladeshi-style dish in a medium curry sauce. Fish Tikka, marinated salmon chargrilled with fenugreek, makes an excellent smoky starter.
These dishes show a different side of Indian cooking, lighter and more aromatic than a heavy meat curry, with the tang of lime and coconut running through them.
Prawn, Cooked Your Way
Because prawn suits so many styles, you can order it almost any way you like. Prawn Korma is very mild, cooked with coconut, almond and fresh cream. Prawn Bhuna is savoury and onion-rich. Prawn Jalfrezi brings real heat with fresh chillies and spring onions, and Prawn Dansak a sweet and sour lentil sauce.
That range means there is a prawn dish for every palate at the table, from the gentlest korma to a fiery jalfrezi.
How to Eat Indian Seafood
Seafood dishes are often brighter and lighter, so pair them with lemon or saffron rice and a crisp white wine to match the citrus and coconut notes. A garlic naan rounds it out.
Order a sizzling prawn starter, a fragrant fish goa to follow, and you have a meal that feels fresh, coastal and a little out of the ordinary.
